Stiff Upper Lip - Bolster Your Spirits With Austerity Era Cushions!

Heraldic Needlepoint has launched a humorous new range of 'Austerity Era' cushions to bring cheery comfort in this time of recession and strife.

These high quality cotton cushions are adorned with 20 different designs - all featuring original wartime and austerity era artwork with slogans and exhortations such as:

" Keep Calm And Carry On."
" Make Do And Mend."
" Freedom Is In Peril. Defend It With All Your Might."
" Dig For Victory."
" To Dress Extravagantly In War Time Is Worse Than Bad Form. It Is Unpatriotic."

All the artwork has been officially licensed by Britain's Imperial War Museum and The National Archives from original public information posters, predominantly those from 1914-18 and 1939-45.

They all hark back to a period of traditional British resilience in the face of adversity, when all Britain needed to keep its head held high was a stiff upper lip and a good cup of tea.

"People love these cushions, we've had tremendous feedback," said Heraldic Needlepoint Managing Director Martin Instone.

"The designs are striking a chord. They make terrific gifts. Some of them are funny, some are a little more serious.

"It's zeitgeist. The spirit of the British is very much to smile and get on with things in the face of adversity," added Martin, who is just old enough to remember the final days of rationing in the years that followed the Second World War.

Among the designs which have proved most popular are Keep Calm And Carry On and Dig For Victory, which has found favour with gardeners in particular.

Some of these historic slogans and exhortations have taken on slightly different meanings with the passing of time, such as "Rally Round The Flag - Every Fit Man Wanted".

The 100 per cent cotton cushions with feather inner pads are 410mm x 273mm x 90mm in size (16" X 10.75" x 3.5"). They retail at £34.99 each.

Well cared for, these high quality cushions can last a lifetime, finding a special place on sofas and in the hearts of families around the world.

They can be ordered direct from www.heraldicneedlepoint.com. Deliveries times are swift - usually three days for UK customers or five to seven days for the USA and Australia.

Austerity Era designs are a new departure for Heraldic Needlepoint which has traditionally produced cushions bearing coats of arms for schools, Oxford and Cambridge colleges and military regiments.
